At Pawmetto Hounds, we provide the absolute best care for all our hounds and their puppies. Our breeding dogs have all been health and genetically tested for the following diseases: ▪️ Brucellosis ▪️ Thrombopathia (Basset Hound Type) ▪️ Lafora Disease—DNA Test ▪️ Primary Open Angle Glaucoma (Basset Hound) (POAG) - DNA Test ▪️ Severe Combined Immunodeficiency Disease, X-Linked (Basset Hound Type) ▪️ Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bull (Basset Hound Type) All of breeding dogs have clear results. We breed with the help and guidance of a veterinary reproductive specialist. Our basset hounds are to the reproductive veterinarian for a health exam and any necessary testing before each breeding. Puppy Arrival: Our puppies are either delivered in our home with the assistance of my husband and me or by a scheduled C-section. Our puppies follow the veterinary schedule below▪️ 2 weeks old for 1st deing ▪️ 4 weeks old for 2nd deworming, fecal test ▪️ 6 weeks old for 3rd deworming, fecal test complete health exam, and 1st vaccines (DHPP) ▪️ 9 weeks old for 4th deworming, fecal test, 2nd vaccines (DHPP), microchipped, and 1st heartworm prevention After puppies are home or if any puppy is still with us, they will need the following vaccinations: ▪️ 12 weeks old for 5th deworming, fecal test, 3 vaccines (DHPP, 1st leptospirosis) ▪️ 15-16 weeks old for 4th vaccines (DHPP, 2nd leptospirosis, Bordetella, and Rabies) Lyme and Canine Influenza vaccines are also available between 12-18 weeks; please discuss these options with your vet based on your location. ▪️ Heartworm, flea, and tick prevention Please make arrangements at your 4th vaccination appointment to buy 6-12 months of monthly preventative. Please always remember that ALL puppies are not fully protected against contagious diseases such as Parvo until 2 weeks after their final vaccines around 18 weeks old. Limit their possible exposure by keeping them mostly at home and away from people, especially in high-risk areas such as pet stores, dog parks, and vet offices. When taking your new puppy to the veterinarian office to complete their vaccines please carry them in a basket, wagon, or stroller. For socialization before your puppy is fully vaccinated, walks using a wagon or stroller are great.
